Cattle are a fantastic geographical topic in West Africa and there are some great studies on socio-spatial aspects of their herding, breeding, trade and ownership. How they look has much to do with these type of issues which complicate a simple geography of distinct breeds. With this in mind, here are some examples of the diversity of cattle types I have so far come across in the region (references here).
